There is one thing I can do... when I am over 75, and should I start showing dementia, then I could move into a retirement home with memory care. The husband would have to catch up. I don't want to burden him with caring for me.

While that's not a particularly deep thought, it does give me a little comfort.

I am aged almost 86 and my darling wife (yes, I'm straight) is aged 83 and showing marked memory loss. It is not dementia or Alzheimer (character change). After nearly 60 years together, I could not bear it if I had to give up caring for her, frustrating as doing so can be. (We live in very good sheltered housing.) Have you asked your partner what he wants to do if faced with the same situation?
